Reflection 4: Planning Tools

Which free online tools would you like to use to assist you in planning your project? Why?

After reading several reviews for different free online project management softwares, two of them were appealing to me. One is GanttProject as  reviewers compare it to Microsoft Project in terms of features offered and complexity.

I have used MS Project in the past and I considered it an excellent tool for managing large projects, but considering it can be  overwhelming for people who are unfamiliar with project management software maybe is preferable to go with the other  Freedcamp.

Some of the benefits of Freedcamp are: Unlimited users and  projects, innumerable functions, optimized for communication, 200 MB of storage. It also offers time tracking, templates, and invoicing.

How does the WBS help you plan your project?

It  helps to  define and organise more accurately  the scopes of the project.  It also help with assigning responsibilities, resource allocation, monitoring the project, and controlling the project. The WBS makes the deliverables more precise and concrete so that the project team knows exactly what has to be accomplished within each deliverable. This also allows for better estimating of cost, risk, and time because you can work from the smaller tasks back up to the level of the entire project. Finally, it allows you double check all the deliverables’ specifics with the stakeholders and make sure there is nothing missing or overlapping.
